
The Telus World of Science, Edmonton is an international Science centre located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This organization is mainly controlled by the Edmonton Space & Science Foundation. The centre is located in the on the southwest corner of Coronation Park in the region of Wood croft. At the time of beginning of the organization (1984), the organization was named as the Edmonton Space Science Centre, and later, it was changed into Edmonton Space and Science Centre.
After the partnership with Telus, the organization took the name of Telus World of Science. The organization has Canada’s largest Planetarium dome theatre named the Margaret Zeidler Star Theatre which attracts over half a million of visitors a year.
Telus World of Science has an IMAX Theatre of 275 seats to show current educational movies to the visitors. The Telus world of Science has the original IMAX theatre and it is the first IMAX theatre in Canada. The quality of the images is great with supreme size and clarity improved by an exclusively designed six channel, multi- speaker sound system. The images are projected onto a giant 13m x 19 m screen. The admission to the IMAX Theatre is not incorporated with the general admission.
The Special attraction to the museum is the Margaret Zeidler Star Theatre which is meant for the purpose of laser shows and star shows. At the time of the beginning of the Centre, the theatre was the largest in Canada. It was the first Planetarium and the science centre in Canada for displaying the newest technology for the domed theatre. The admission to the theatre is included in the general admission.
There is another platform for the demonstrations and the science presentations to the visitors; that is the Syncrude Science Stage. The shows like- the Ultimate Cool, Fire and Fury, Let’s have a gas, Super Duper Chemistry etc. According to a recent poll of the visitors, this stage was the best part of their visit.
The Amateur Radio Station started in the summer of 1995. It is the place for the amateur volunteer operators work to share the unknown information about the Radio station. There is a computer lab opened in April 2001. The lab has newest technology and the teaching tools, the computerized white board, the latest software and a high speed internet connection. The lab offers a great learning atmosphere for the visitors. Apart from these features, there are Observatories, Robotics lab, Café and Gift shop etc in Telus World of Science.
The organization takes various initiatives for the purpose of teaching general people about various perspective of Science through presentations, hands on activities and experiments. With the help of fun and entertainments, the centre has made the mission easy to the visitors.
The centre has also the facility to provide space to general people in order to hold any Christmas Party or Birthday parties there. The centre has easiest ways to please all of your guests at a time. You can go to the Santa Park with maximum 20 people or plan your own catering in a room with your peer group. For the booking purpose you should check the prices list in their website.
There are two Santa Parks available for the purpose of the entertainment and each of the parks has some special features. Both of the parks:
- Unlimited and the same day access to all the galleries and shows of the centre
- Arrangement for lunch with the beef hot dog, small bag of chips, water, fruits and candy cane for the visitors.
- Huge and elegant party room for the guests with buffet system.
- The reception is beautiful with active staffs to help.
The admission procedure is very easy over here because most of the gallery shows take place everyday. The centre remains open from 10 am to 5 pm except the holiday on 24th & 25th December. There are special discounts for the pass holder and the members. Parking and wheel chair facility is also available in the place.
