The museum is supposed to be the sole preserver of the whole Alberta Railway history. The Alberta Railway museum is located in the city of Edmonton. It has the collection of various railway equipments and heritage buildings. The museum has also the locomotives from the Canadian National Railways and the Northern Alberta Railways. The Alberta Railway Museum was opened in the year 1976 in an historic spot. The summer staff and the volunteers help to keep the museum open. The required money for operating the museum comes from memberships, the museum admissions, grants and the casinos.

The Alberta Railway Museum is chiefly controlled by the Alberta Pioneer Railway Association. This is a non-profitable organization and the main motto of the organization is the preservation, restoration of the artifacts the technology and the history of the Canadian National and Northern Alberta Railways in Western Canada.

The museum is open on the Weekends only from the Victoria Day that is the Monday on or before May 24) each year to the Labor Day that is the first Monday in September. During the summer season, you can ride the speeders on the weekends only. The museum also offers passenger services with their locomotives on some weekends- The Victoria Day (May), Canada Day ( July), Heritage Day ( August) and the Labor Day ( September). There are facilities of guided tours and self guided tours available in the museum for the knowledge of the interested people. The tours are lasted for 90 minutes.

The Museum also has a gift shop to sell souvenirs, snacks and beverages with the help of Debit card, Visa and the Master card. There are special events and news of the museum for the attraction of the visitors. The Museum has also the facilities of becoming a member of the whole activities. The controlling authority (APRA) always welcomes new members to be a part of the organization so that you don’t miss any of the great activities running in the Museum. There are various categories for memberships, such as Regular for $ 30, Family for $35, and the seniors for $ 20.
