Alberta Aviation Museum, Edmonton

Alberta Aviation Museum of Edmonton is standing gloriously in the history of Alberta for its achievement and contribution towards aviation. This made Edmonton “The Gateway to the North”. This year Canada and Alberta are celebrating the glorious 100 years of flight and are displaying the unbelievable progress of technology from the structure of wood and fabric to the present jet age. The Alberta Aviation Museum is located in the Edmonton City Centre (Blatchford Field). The Museum is offering services through out the whole year except on the Christmas day and New Years Day. Let’s go through a short sketch of History of the Museum.

The greatest thing of pride is that this Museum possesses some rarest example of the Aviation history of the then world. It has the last remaining example of Double- Double Second World War British Common wealth Air training Plan (BCATP) hanger and the antiques are on display in its original style. These hangers are made of pre cut wooden timbers of British Columbia Fir. The hangers may be made as a single unit, double units or double- double that is four units.

There are some special characteristics by which the Museum is isolated from the other museums of Canada.

  • The Museum consists of huge area indeed and there are over 30 aircraft on display. As per the Statistics, this is the third largest display in Canada.
  • The Museum has over 40 display cabinets and exhibits.
  • You can also get a taste of personal artifact displays by the famous Canadian Aviators.
  • The Museum has a huge Aircraft Restoration Area.
  • Â Have you ever wished to fly an aeroplane in your life but found no chance? Here only you can have the opportunity and get the thrills of flying an aeroplane. The museum has the facility of multi screen flight simulators by the help of which you can feel the experience of being a pilot. You can control, navigate the plane on your own like a real one.
  • If you have a passion to experience the cock pit of Cold War jet fighter, here only you will get that. The museum has a huge collection of jet planes of World War II.
  • There are also the arrangements for the entertainments of kids. They will be spell bounded with the whole activities.
  • There are facilities of guided tours and lectures for all the school grades.
  • There are also some special events and public interest activities.

You will get some extra facilities over here to suit your purpose best. If you want to organize an event in the museum, there are provisions for special event rental spaces. The main hall is with large rental space having a 13,000 sq.ft stage of and a capacity of taking 600 people in it. There are also the arrangements for the theatre projection and digital sound system in the hall. If you want to give a presentation over there, you can do that as they have wireless internet and full presentation facilities. You can download the space rental list from their website.
